Learn about Each of the Chakras
In Chakradance™ each chakra is associated with a unique dance that helps to activate and balance its energy. These dances draw on ancient traditions and movements from around the world, allowing you to connect deeply with your primal instincts, emotions, inner power, love, truth, intuition, and spirituality.
Muladhara
The Base Chakra
The journey begins with the base chakra. When dancing to activate this center, movements often draw from the tribal dances of Africa, Australia, and North America. These traditional dances focus on grounding, survival, and our connection to the earth.
In Chakradance, pronounced leg and foot movements help us connect deeply with the earth. Many envision themselves dancing around an ancient campfire, bringing tribal rhythms to life. These dances often mimic animal movements, inspiring us to dance in an instinctual, primal manner, reconnecting with our most basic, innate self.
Svadhisthana
The Sacral Chakra
The dance of the sacral chakra is influenced by the feminine movements found in the Middle East, South America, and Hawaii. These dances celebrate the qualities of the sacral chakra, such as emotions, sensuality, and creativity. This dance can range from slow and sensual to lively and flirtatious, with fluid hip and belly movements.
As we dance, we embody the essence of a gypsy, a belly dancer, or an ancient goddess, embracing the flowing, serpentine movements that represent the feminine energy.
Manipura
The Solar Plexus Chakra
Dancing the solar plexus chakra channels the energy of warrior dances from ancient Greece, Morocco, Spain, Mexico, and Brazil. These dances are characterized by their powerful, athletic, and vigorous movements, mimicking combat techniques.
In Chakradance, we engage in strong, purposeful movements that build in intensity. This dynamic dance ignites our inner fire and awakens our inner warrior, allowing us to express our strength and determination.
Anahata
The Heart Chakra
Dancing the heart chakra is about moving with joy and compassion. Inspired by ancient Egyptian dances with their expressive arm movements, participants are gently whirled into states of joyful harmony. Additionally, we draw from Chinese dances that symbolize the balance of heaven and earth.
In Chakradance, we emulate these uplifting movements, feeling light and free. This dance is a journey of love, compassion, and joy, drawing on the wisdom of ancient traditions.
Vishuddha
The Throat Chakra
The dance of the throat chakra combines movement with vocal expression, inspired by ancient traditions where dance and voice were intertwined.
In Ancient Egypt, dancers recited poetry as they moved, while in Hawaii, chants and dances told stories. Tibetan monks also combined chanting with delicate movements during mystical rituals.
In Chakradance, we integrate sound and movement to enhance self-expression and creativity.
Ajna
The Third Eye Chakra
At the third eye chakra, we enter ecstatic and altered states of consciousness through trance dance, a practice found in many ancient cultures of South East Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and the Americas. Trance dances served various ritualistic and healing purposes.
In Chakradance, we use trance dance to activate the third eye chakra, allowing each dancer to enter a personal visual realm filled with images, colors, and insights, with no boundaries.
Sahasrāra
The Crown Chakra
The crown chakra dance is a devotional practice. Across the globe, cultures have embraced spiritual and religious dancing. Ancient Shamans danced to communicate with Spirits, while in Ancient Egypt, ritual dances were crucial for religious rites. Tantric Buddhists in Nepal have a tradition called Charya Nritya, which means ‘dance as a spiritual discipline’.
In Chakradance, we open the gateway to the soul with a meditative sacred dance. This dance is paradoxical, often appearing still to an observer, as it is an internal dance of the soul in communion with the divine.
